Project Background

USAID/Nepal’s Tayar Nepal – Improved Disaster Risk Management Project will strengthen the capacity of Nepal’s national and municipal institutions responsible for disaster preparedness and response. In a country prone to a myriad of natural disasters, at the national level Tayar Nepal will build the capacity of disaster risk management (DRM) institutions, including the newly created National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Agency (NDRRMA). Locally, Tayar will support eight urban municipalities to develop risk-sensitive land use plans and then support the prioritization and implementation of a set of technical assistance packages improve disaster resilience. In the event of a disaster over the life of the five-year project, USAID/Nepal may engage the program’s rapid emergency response mechanism. Tayar will work closely with the Government of Nepal and Nepali emergency responders to mobilize technical assistance, commodity support, small-scale infrastructure, and information management support. Tayar will apply lessons learned from disaster response efforts to improve national-level DRM systems and municipal-level risk-reduction activities.

Summary of Primary Duties

The main duties of the driver will be to drive project vehicle for project purpose following the project protocol and guideline, maintain vehicle logbook, and be responsible to ensure the project vehicle is regularly maintained as per schedule.

Essential Duties

• Drives project vehicle for project purpose following project protocol and guideline, safe driving protocol, include health and safety protocol, security guideline, coordination and communication guideline, etc.
• Ensure that vehicle is regularly maintained as per guideline, such as regular cleaning, ensure the vehicle is always with sufficient fuel, check vehicle condition in regular basis and propose and facilitate basic and complete vehicle maintenance procedure with maintenance service provider, under Front Office Associate guideline.
• Maintain complete, accurate and timely vehicle log book
• Ensure to keep valid driving license and vehicle license. For vehicle license, the driver must coordinate with Front Office Associate to ensure the renewal of license in advance.
• Ensure vehicle is always occupied with complete kits such as toolbox, fire extinguisher, first aid, etc.
• Assist Front Office Associate and Procurement Team on maintain accurate records and paperwork on all vehicle-related purchases and maintenance
• Willing to drive outside duty station and overnight, and follow the guideline for long distance drive following safety and security protocol
• Provide support to both programming and operations teams including but not limited to deliver and pick up document, deliver and pick up staff/guest, photocopy and scan document, and other duties assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

• Min SLC degree is required, +12 preferred.
• At least 5 years of work experience as a driver, with USAID or other donor project experience is preferred
• Able to communicate in English
• Excellent and clean driving record
• Valid local driver’s license for four wheeled vehicle
• Willingness for frequent travel within the country and able to check road condition before departure for safety precaution
• Able to maintain good working relationships with team members while retaining high levels of confidentiality and discretion

Level of Effort, Location and Reporting

The level of effort is 260 days per year. The employment contract will be on a yearly basis, with possible extensions until the close of the project. The Driver reports to the Front Office Associate. The position is based in Kathmandu, with travel to priority Tayar municipalities.
